API rate limit exceeded during bulk sync with external ERP via Integration Hub

We’re running into a frustrating issue with our bulk sync job from Zoho CRM to our ERP system. Every time we try to sync more than 500 records, we hit the API rate limit and the job fails halfway through. The error message shows “Rate limit exceeded: 100 requests per minute” but our batch processing logic doesn’t handle retries automatically.

This data helps you tune batch sizes and delays. In our implementation, we went from 60% failed syncs to 99.8% success rate with average sync times only 15% longer than the original unthrottled approach. The key is balancing throughput with staying under rate limits.

One final tip: if you’re syncing bidirectionally, coordinate your sync schedules to avoid both systems trying to sync simultaneously and competing for API quota.

Another thing to check - are you making unnecessary API calls? Sometimes the issue isn’t just rate limiting but inefficient API usage. For example, if you’re checking record existence before each update, you’re doubling your API calls. Use upsert operations where possible and batch your read operations.
